6 months
Dear Gideon,
Happy 6 months! It is hard to believe that you are halfway to being one year old. I feel like the time is flying. We are happy you are with us and you make our days brighter (and our nights very short. haha).
Lately you have not slept well at night, waking up two or three times a night and having a hard time falling asleep again. It is hard to believe that you are hungry every time, but you usually scream until I give in and feed you.
During the day you are the happiest baby and are very easy-going. You sit up and play very well by yourself. You love it when Juliet plays with you. You have started grabbing her clothes and hair and sometimes even a toy that she is playing with. You are just excited to be around her, but she usually doesn't appreciate it. We are working with playing nicely for both of you, though we know you are too young to learn it now.
You have started eating solid foods. So far your favorite thing to eat is rice cereal. We have also had you try banana, oatmeal cereal, and today you tried butternut squash for the first time. You have eaten everything we have given you, but you will eat tablespoons of rice cereal before bed. I am hoping that once your tummy gets used to some solid foods that we can give you more and more and hopefully it will help with your hunger at night.
Your current favorite toy are the egg shakers we have in the music time basket. We went on a little trip last week to Winter Quarters and we took some with us. For the last hour driving home, the only thing that would soothe you is when dad was constantly shaking it in your face. You also love to handle them yourself and constantly shake them when you have them and then you usually throw them across the room.
You are very good at sitting up and are even good at sitting up in the bath with Juliet. You are a good example to Juliet of washing quickly and allowing me to move you around to bathe you efficiently.
You are in 9 month clothes still, but you will probably go up a size before you are 7 months. You are in size 3 diapers, but I just bought some size 4 diapers today. Your hair is turning pretty blonde and we have given you three haircuts since you have been born. I hold you while your dad uses scissors for a trim or the machine to do a buzz cut all around your head. You have been really good each time.
Both you and Juliet got sick with a cold this last week, which has been a little miserable for you. You are not used to me wiping your nose and coughing in the night. We are hoping the next few days will help you feel better. I hope that this winter is not full of a lot of sickness for you, but it may be.
We recently took family photos for my birthday and I love how they turned out. You were especially cute in your vest and collared shirt. The day after we went to our Ward Trunk or Treat and we dressed you as Tigger and the rest of us were characters from the Hundred Acre Woods. Dad was Winnie the Pooh, I was Piglet, and Juliet was Owl. You were a good sport and wore the hood on your head and even smiled at people.
Everyday feels like a whirlwind sometimes with all of the activities we have going on, but I do try to spend some time with you everyday playing, just you and me. It is usually when Juliet is sleeping either in the morning (you do like to wake up insanely early) or during her nap time. I have come to enjoy these times because your face lights up when you realize I am sitting down to play with just you. As a second child, you may feel sometimes like we don't have time for you or that we pay more attention to your sister, but I want you to know that we love you too and we think about you constantly. I pray for you day and night and am just so grateful to know your sweet, happy spirit.
Love,
Mom
