Dear Gideon,

The time has gone by quickly since you were born!

Yesterday you turned three weeks old. I was reflecting on it yesterday, how you have grown so much in that time but you are still so small. You are stronger now, and spend more time awake. It has been fun to see you look at faces: mine, Mom's, and Grandma's. When you lay on your stomach you can turn your head from side to side, with some effort. It has been fun to watch you do that.

Juliet loves to give you hugs and kisses. You usually don't mind as long as she is gentle, but you are good at crying right away if you don't like what she is doing.

Overall though you have been very calm. From the very beginning you have been sleeping well at night, only waking up 2 or 3 times in the middle of the night to eat. Then during the day you tend to eat every 2-2.5 hours.

You like to be on your own sometimes. You like to be held sometimes, and other times left to sit or lay on your own or to sit in the swing.

Mom says she feels that you have a very sweet spirit. I have enjoyed holding you and talking to you.

Dear Gideon,  I’ve been gone most of this week for work. I’m on my way home tonight. I got you some clothes and pajamas at Walmart, on a big discount. Still though, having some brand new clothes may be nice for you.  Mom told me that you did pretty well most of the week, but yesterday you did start to have a small fever. That has happened to you often lately, and Mom and I have wondered if you’ve been getting little illnesses, or if you get overheated with how hot it is outside, or if you just have an unusually high temperature. You are becoming more alert during the day.  I’m glad I get to see you again soon. I am in the airport right now, on my way back to you and Mom and Juliet.  In church today there was a talk that I enjoyed. The subject was understanding why bad things happen to good people. Dear Son, Well, your due date is getting closer and closer! Mom and I are both excited. We are trying to get things ready for you to come home. Grammie will be visiting around the time of your due date, and Grandma shortly after that. We've made a list of names that we're going to consider for you, though we might change the list, here it is now. First names: Gideon, Micah, Peter, Thomas. For middle names, we are thinking about: David, Gabriel, Ruben, Thomas. You're active. You move around a lot. It feels to me like you push back whenever I put my hand on Mom's tummy. Love, Dad

 Dear Gideon,  Happy THREE years! This last year has been incredibly difficult in a lot of ways, but you have been such a bright spot through it all. We have endured a pandemic where the world has changed drastically as we all have known it. You have taken all of it in stride and been the most flexible of us all. You have taught me so much about living with happiness and loving our family.  From the beginning you were obedient in wearing a mask even though you turned two right at the beginning of the pandemic. You have always been pretty good about wearing a mask. Sometimes you put in in your mouth and make it wet so that you can take it off, but you have gotten better about that.  You still love basketball and love playing HORSE as a family.
