1 month

Dear Gideon,

May 20, 2018

Happy 1 month! Life has been so great with you in it. We feel as if this month has flown by but at the same time it feels so right to have you be in our family that it feels as if you have always been with us. We love having you around and are excited for your growth.

Your dad already wrote your birth story, but since then you have had a few family members visit you. Grammie was staying with us when you were born. Your Grandma came shortly after and stayed with us for two weeks. While she was here, your Grandpa came for a few days to meet you and spend time with Juliet. Your Aunt Summer graduated from BYU the week after you were born and she drove out here (while moving to Virginia) with Grammie and they spend an afternoon visiting us. Aunt Summer loved cuddling with you.

You are a very good natured baby. You never cry unless you are trying to communicate an immediate need and you usually stop crying immediately once the need has been filled. You are a great eater and are very efficient. At night you have gone back and forth between eating every two hours and every three hours. It is a lot, but you wake up and eat and then immediately fall back asleep, which is what dreams are made of when it comes to babies!! You have fallen easily into the Eat Awake Sleep routine. You don't demand to be held too much, although you do like it. Usually you like to be held in the evening and at night. It means I don't get much done after your sister goes to sleep, which is when I normally get things done, but I don't mind because I get to enjoy cuddles from you. I feel like I am really enjoying the newborn stage with you.

You have started being awake more in the afternoon and evening. Juliet loves doing tummy time with you and will lay down next to you on your play mat. You don't mind tummy time and are a really good sport about it. You have even started lifting up your head. The first couple of times you fell asleep during tummy time but you are becoming more active, aware, and alert.

You have been to a lot of places so far because Juliet likes to go places every single day. You usually sleep through our outings to the store, mall, park, lake, and swimming pool. You don't mind your car seat and you usually sleep on car rides. I also put you in the stroller and you seem content there too. You especially love the wrap that I have when we go on walks with Juliet.

Your cry is not very loud. You don't cry at night when you wake up, you either whine or just grunt to be fed. It has been pretty easy having you sleep in the bassinet next to our bed. You don't wake dad up at night, which is good because he works long hours during the day.

You have gotten sick for the first time. You had a mild fever and have had a stuffy nose and cough. We hope it goes away soon. You seem so miserable sometimes and haven't been sleeping great, but hopefully your body heals soon.

You have a head full of hair (although more thick in the back than on the top). Your dad has already wanted to give you a haircut. We will see how long I can hold him off. You have blue eyes. Your face looks different from your sister's face when she was your age. I am excited to see how you look in a few months. You love baths being in the warm water and don't like getting out (who does?) It gets cold!

Juliet loves to try to take care of you and constantly asks to hold you. You are a really good sport about it, even when she is a little rough with you. I think you both will be great friends.

We just love having you be in our family!

Love,
